About Merrill Jay Winoker - Biography
After many months of being in my mother’s womb, I came out and immediately started to have a conversation with my mother, her name is Sophie. I was very comfortable and warm. I always had enough to eat. My first question, “Mom, why did you listen to Elvis Presley?”
Mom, “He was the King of Rock n Roll.” Instantly, my thoughts were to grow up having King Solomon’s attributes of great wealth and great wisdom.
My trials and tribulations to great wealth started at the age of eight. I attended Camp Okwanessett in Warwick, Rhode Island. I saw chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies, door to door in my neighborhood. I earned 7 1/2 out of 8 trips as an Apache Camper.
At age 17, I joined Junior Achievement. The company we formed was NECO. Sponsored by Narragansett Electric and run by high school students. The company was started in September. We sold 100 shares of common stock, assembled glass candy dishes, and sold them for $1.50. Our cost was .75 cents.
We had officers and employees that were paid. In May of that year, it was stated in the by-laws that the company had to be dissolved. NECO was profitable and we paid a dividend to our stockholders.
I was the Treasurer of NECO, earning the title, Treasurer of the Year - Rhode Island. I competed in NAJAC - National Junior Achievers Conference. Unbelievable experience, however, no win.
In reading my first book on Positive Mental Attitude; “See You at the Top,” by Zig Ziglar, I discovered Toastmasters International.
Starting out as a very stiff and illogical speaker, I have turned into an Effective Communicator. On my journey, I became an award-winning speaker; Club Speech Contest, Toastmaster of the Year (twice), Pathfinder Trophy (twice), and DTM (Distinguished Toastmaster).
My first company was Seminar Presentations Group. That company is dissolved. I have restructured a new company - Effective Communications Today.
Studying with a mentor and a team of coaches, I have new writing, presenting, and facilitating processes that work. Also, your seminar or training can be customized for you.
